Authorities dismantle Durango-based methamphetamine labs linked to "Los Mayos"; they seize 21 metric tons of the drug
Naval Forces Dismantle Largest Methamphetamine Laboratories, Seize Over 21 Tons of Drugs
In a significant blow to organized crime, the Secretaría de Marina (Semar) has dismantled two clandestine laboratories for illicit substance production in Carricitos, Durango. The seized material, estimated to be approximately 21 tons of suspected methamphetamine, marks the largest seizure of finished product by the Marina.
These laboratories are believed to be linked to the criminal group "Los Mayos". The dismantling of these facilities is expected to prevent over 525 million doses of drugs from reaching the streets, significantly reducing the supply of illicit substances.
During a press conference, Semar's commander, Harfuch, announced the arrest of 14 people linked to fuel theft fiscal. However, the organization responsible for this arrest was not explicitly stated in the search results. Police forces, such as those typically involved in fuel theft incidents, are usually responsible for such arrests.
At the scene, approximately 1,000 liters of hydrochloric acid, 200 liters of acetic acid, 1,000 liters of toluene, 200 liters of benzyl cyanide, 250 liters of P2P, 575 kilograms of caustic soda, and 200 kilos of sodium cyanide were seized. These chemicals are commonly used in the production of methamphetamine.
The seized material was handed over to the Public Ministry agent for investigation. This action, according to Harfuch, has an estimated economic impact on organized crime of six thousand 532 million 26 thousand 885 pesos.
It is worth noting that this is the second-largest laboratory dismantled by naval personnel in recent years, the previous one was in Sonora in February 2024.
