Authorities have issued an arrest warrant.
In recent weeks, the city of Essen has seen a spate of burglaries in the city center and North quarter. On August 30, a significant development occurred when a 35-year-old Tunisian man was arrested in E.-City Center on Viehofer Street.
The arrest was made early Saturday morning by officers from the "Safe City" presence group. The suspect was recognized during a patrol and arrested immediately. The Essen District Court had issued an arrest warrant against him on August 18 at the request of the Essen Public Prosecutor's Office.
The man is now a suspect in four burglary cases. On July 28, unknown individuals attempted a burglary on a business on Severin Street, but nothing was taken. On the night of August 4/5, several doors of a business on Rott Street were pried open, but no loot was made. Late evening of August 6, unknown individuals broke into an office building on Gerling Street, but no loot was taken. On July 29, unknown individuals stole a cash register worth over 1,000 EUR from a bar on Kettwiger Street.
During the search, several burglary tools and suspected loot were found and seized. The suspect has been in custody since the arrest.
The arrest is not the only recent development in the ongoing investigation. On September 4, a 32-year-old Turkish man was apprehended in connection with the burglaries. Both suspects are currently in pretrial detention following court-issued detention orders.
The burglaries have resulted in stolen items such as a cash register. The police are urging businesses to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. For further inquiries, contact the Police Essen/Mülheim an der Ruhr Press Office.
