A 59-year-old driver from the Lahn-Dill district experienced an unexpected incident on Tuesday evening at approximately 7:30 PM on Autobahn 45 near Langenselbold. The roof box on his vehicle unexpectedly opened, causing the loss of its contents.

The incident resulted in the temporary closure of two lanes in the direction of Aschaffenburg and one lane in the direction of Giessen. The scattered luggage covered approximately 100 meters across two lanes, posing a potential hazard to traffic. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

The South East Hesse Police Headquarters, based in Offenbach am Main at Spessartring 61, confirmed the incident in their report, which was originally transmitted via news aktuell. The report is accompanied by images from the scene, courtesy of the South East Hesse Police.

The driver, who had to postpone his planned Croatia vacation due to the incident, could not fit the contents of the roof box back into his vehicle and had to call his son for assistance. A second patrol from the South East Hesse Police Highway Station helped in removing the remaining plastic cover and collecting the luggage.

The driver will now face an administrative offense procedure and will likely need to purchase a new roof box.
