Authorities took a man into custody in Hamburg-Jenfeld district, charged with an attempt on someone's life.
A suspected homicide occurred in Hamburg-Jenfeld, Rodigallee, at 2:30 AM on September 1, 2025. The victim, a 41-year-old woman, was allegedly strangled by her 43-year-old separated husband, who is currently at large.
The initial investigation was conducted by the criminal duty service (LKA 26) at the scene, but the investigation has since been taken over by the homicide squad (LKA 41) in Hamburg and the department for capital crimes at the public prosecutor's office.
The suspect, identified as a 43-year-old Afghan man, was arrested yesterday afternoon by targeted search teams from the state criminal police office (LKA 23) on the order of the public prosecutor's office in the Wilhelmsburg district. However, the initial search measures for the suspect have not been successful, and he remains at large.
The victim regained consciousness and was able to call for help. Her 17-year-old son intervened, causing the suspect to flee the apartment. The ambulance crew then transported the victim to a hospital, where after intensive medical treatment, she is now out of danger.
The investigations against the suspect in the Hamburg case are being led by the homicide commission (Mordkommission) of the Hamburg Police (LKA 41) in cooperation with the public prosecutor's office. The crime scene investigation (LKA 31) also became involved at the scene.
The suspect is accused of attacking his wife and causing her to lose consciousness. The incident reportedly occurred during the night after the suspect spent the evening with his family.
