Authority Announcement: Apprehension by Heilbronn Prosecutor's Office and Heilbronn Police Headquarters following investigations into motor vehicle theft case
In the night of February 26th to 27th, 2025, a 40-year-old man is suspected of stealing an Audi Q5 parked in Nußäckerstraße, Bad Rappenau-Bonfeld. The incident occurred in Heilbronn, Germany.
The suspect, a Polish national, was stopped on the A72 motorway and his arrest followed a series of investigations. The Audi was noticed on the A72 motorway heading east due to its high speed and erratic driving. A subsequent search of the Audi revealed Polish license plates registered to an identical vehicle.
The Bavarian police informed their colleagues in Heilbronn about the recovered vehicle. It is believed that the KeylessGo signal of the vehicle key was intercepted to start the car and remove it from the scene.
The suspect's arrest was made by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department 2 of the Heilbronn Criminal Police Directorate, where the suspect was taken for questioning. The suspect admitted to the journey during a police interrogation.
The stolen Audi was stopped by a civilian patrol car from the Bayreuth Traffic Police Inspectorate at the Hof/Topen exit in Bavaria. When the registered address of the recovered vehicle was checked, the vehicle owner found his Audi missing. The car keys were still in the house of the vehicle owner.
The judge executed an arrest warrant requested by the Heilbronn Public Prosecutor's Office for aggravated theft. The suspect was presented to a judge at the Heilbronn District Court on Friday. After the court hearing, the suspect was taken to a detention facility.
The head of the Heilbronn Police Department, which handled the case of the stolen Audi Q5, is Chief Commissioner Stefan Schwab, who assumed office on June 1, 2023, and was officially installed by Police President Frank Spitzmüller on June 5, 2023. The Public Prosecutor's Office in Heilbronn is handling the case.
