Auto manufacturer MG steps up competition against Tesla and other electric vehicle companies with the introduction of models IM5 and IM6.
The British automaker MG Motors is making waves in the automotive industry with its latest offerings, the IM5 sedan and the technologically identical IM6 SUV. These electric vehicles (EVs) are set to enter the premium car league this fall, with a focus on smart assistance, performance, and affordability.
The IM5 and IM6 boast a simple and frugal interior design, crafted with high-quality materials and larger screens than those found in Tesla models. The interiors also feature a host of smart assistance, including adaptive suspension, air suspension, all-wheel steering, and various safety features.
In terms of performance, the all-wheel-drive version of the IM models packs a punch, with two motors delivering a combined output of 552 kW/751 PS, 802 Nm, and sports car-like performance. The entry-level IM model, on the other hand, offers a 217 kW/295 PS motor, enabling speeds of up to 200 km/h.
The IM models are built on a new skateboard platform with an 800-volt operating voltage, allowing them to be charged at up to 400 kW. This enables the battery state to increase from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 17 minutes, making long-distance travel more convenient.
The IM6, in particular, comes equipped with a host of standard safety features such as seven airbags, emergency braking, and lane keeping assistant, as well as comfort features like air conditioning, climate-controlled massage seats, touchscreen infotainment, and a panoramic roof.
The IM6 has dimensions of 4.904 mm in length, 1.988 mm in width, and 1.669 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2.950 mm, offering plenty of space for passengers and cargo. The IM6 also has a curb weight of 2.410 kg and a payload of N/A.
The IM models are priced from around €45,000, making them a competitive option in the premium EV market. The base price of the MG IM6 is approximately 50,000 Euro. The top version of the IM models comes with a 100 kWh battery, providing up to 710 kilometers of range.
The autopilot system in the MG models is at level 2 in flowing traffic and further in stationary traffic. The car company that entered the luxury class of electric vehicles in 2022 with the models IM5 and IM6 is IM Motors, and the sales will be offered initially in China and Europe.
Finally, the IM models feature a unique feature that stores the last 100 meters of their journey and can replay it automatically with the push of a button, adding a touch of novelty to the driving experience. With their combination of performance, smart features, and affordability, the IM5 and IM6 are poised to make a significant impact in the EV market.
