Automotive industries gear up for the large-scale manufacturing of electric trucks
The world of transportation is witnessing a significant shift towards electric vehicles, and the trucking industry is no exception. Several European manufacturers are leading the charge, announcing plans to introduce long-range electric trucks in the coming years.
MAN Truck & Bus SE has announced that it will begin serial production of its 450-kilometer-range eTruck at an unspecified future date. This move follows similar announcements from DAF Trucks NV, who will start production of their XD Electric and XF Electric vehicles with a range of 500 km in 2023.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks is also jumping on the bandwagon, with plans to start serial production of a 500 km battery electric long-haul truck, the eActros LongHaul, in 2024. The eActros LongHaul features a battery range of about 500 kilometers and supports high-power megawatt charging technology. The eActros 300 model series production will start already in 2023.
Volvo Trucks took the lead in this initiative, beginning series manufacturing of its Volvo FH Electric with a range of 500 kilometers with a short charging stop in an unspecified previous year.
Joining the fray, IVECO plans to start serial production of the Nikola Tre BEV with a 500 km range in 2023.
Scania Group is not left behind, developing battery-powered 40-tonne trucks with a range of 560 kilometers between stops. The company plans to sell electric vocational vehicles such as construction, mining, and timber trucks by 2025.
Moreover, Daimler, Volvo, and IVECO, among others, have expressed plans to begin serial manufacturing of FCEVs (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles) by the end of the decade.
These developments mark a significant step towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly trucking industry. As these manufacturers continue to innovate and improve their electric trucks, we can expect to see more of these vehicles on our highways in the near future.
