Avaricious visitors in Sylt!

In recent times, the catering industry on the German island of Sylt has been facing a challenging summer. According to a report by the Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) in Schleswig-Holstein, many restaurants are experiencing a decline in revenue.

The decline is attributed to a change in vacationers' spending habits. Guests are eating out less frequently and being mindful of their spending. Every third restaurateur on Sylt has reported less turnover this year compared to the same period last year.

One of the notable changes is the self-catering trend, where vacationers are opting to cook their meals more often. People are paying attention to prices and are no longer buying the most expensive items. Instead of ordering two bottles of wine, vacationers are ordering just one.

This shift in spending habits is a recent development, suggesting a change compared to previous years. The decline in revenue is allegedly due to a higher number of rainy days, but the video does not indicate a general trend among Sylt vacationers, but rather shows a change in some individuals' spending habits.

Despite hotels being fully booked, the catering industry as a whole is recording a decline on Sylt. Cafe Mateika's owner, Sabine Mateika-Ruflair, states that July and August are the months when families come to Sylt and watch their spending. Vacationers who come to Sylt in September and October tend to spend money more freely.

The "SHZ" has reported on an internal survey by the Dehoga, which states that vacationers are not saving on their vacation, but rather during it. Christian Siegling, head of Sylt's Dehoga, supports this statement, asserting that vacationers are handling their money frugally on Sylt.

A video of a man sharing flashy alcohol consumption on Sylt has been shared, which some find concerning. However, it is important to note that this does not represent the spending habits of all vacationers on the island.

The purpose of vacancy steering by vacationers on Sylt is to manage tourist flow and accommodation availability. Germans have become somewhat more frugal recently due to economic uncertainties. Despite the challenges, the summer business on Sylt is not running smoothly for many restaurants. Guests are eating out fewer times per week, typically two or three times.

The decline in revenue for Sylt's restaurants is a concerning development for the local industry. However, understanding the reasons behind this change in spending habits can help businesses adapt and find solutions to navigate these challenging times.
