Avett Brothers deliver rocking performance at Bluestem in Moorhead after lengthy absence

In 2013, The Avett Brothers made their local debut at The Venue, entertaining an enthusiastic crowd of approximately 2,611 people. The evening began with the group playing "Country Kid" from their self-titled album, setting the tone for a captivating performance.

The setlist for the night was a mix of songs from The Avett Brothers' first decade and more recent, poppier material. One of the highlights was a performance of "Farewell Trion" by Scott Avett and fiddle player Tania Elizabeth, without the rest of the band.

Opening for The Avett Brothers were The Milk Carton Kids, who were praised for their ability to engage the crowd between songs. The duo performed "I Still Want a Little More" and "North Country Ride," showcasing their harmonies and acoustic guitar skills.

The Milk Carton Kids encouraged the audience to sing along to a tune, which was later identified as Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here." However, the audience responded more strongly to their own song "Michigan."

Joey Ryan from The Milk Carton Kids exhibited deadpan wit during the performance, making jokes about Fargo and Moorhead's amphitheaters.

The Avett Brothers returned to Bluestem Amphitheater on a specific date and put on what many considered their best show yet in the area. The group showcased gospel-like elements in their performance, as evident in "No Hard Feelings," which featured crowd participation reminiscent of a praise band at a Sunday service.

"Murder in the City" was performed with minimal instrumentation, allowing Scott's voice to stand out. The group also performed "Left on Laura, Left on Lisa" from their 2006 album "Four Thieves Gone: The Robbinsville Sessions."

The Avett Brothers finished the show with "If It's the Beaches," a low-key number that has only been played by the group two other times this year. The encore ended with "Kick Drum Heart," which transformed from a folk-punk song into an arena rock rager.

Unfortunately, The Avett Brothers' scheduled 2021 show was postponed due to COVID concerns and later canceled altogether. Despite this, the band has returned to Fargo-Moorhead multiple times since 2013, including at the Fargo Civic Center in 2015 and Moorhead's Bluestem Amphitheater in 2019.

The search results do not contain information about a band that regularly performed in Fargo-Moorhead and had its 2021 concert canceled due to COVID concerns. It seems that The Avett Brothers have left a lasting impression on the city and its music lovers.
