Axel Springer welcomes Marc Felix Serrao
Marc Felix Serrao, the former editor-in-chief of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) in Germany, has announced his departure from the Swiss publication to join Axel Springer's Global Reporters Network.
Serrao, who has previously worked at the Süddeutsche Zeitung and contributed to Springer's "Welt am Sonntag" as a freelancer, will be joining a circle of "journalistic superstars" at Springer, including Robin Alexander, Paul Ronzheimer, and Constantin Schreiber.
In a statement, Serrao praised Axel Springer, saying, "Axel Springer is more relevant journalistically than ever." Springer CEO Mathias Döpfner emphasized the importance of the Global Reporters Network, stating, "We have to become a creator platform ourselves."
Serrao will be based at "Die Welt," but he will contribute to other Springer brands like "Bild," "Politico," and "Business Insider." He will also appear as an expert on Welt TV.
Under Serrao's leadership, the liberal Swiss paper took a more right-wing conservative course in Germany. The identity of Serrao's successor at the NZZ is currently unknown. Eric Gujer has been appointed as the new editor-in-chief after Serrao left for Axel Springer.
Serrao became the NZZ's Berlin bureau chief in 2017 and has been its Germany editor-in-chief since 2021. Springer CEO Mathias Döpfner also highlighted the significance of Serrao's expertise, stating, "We are delighted to welcome Marc Felix Serrao to our team. His wealth of experience and deep understanding of German politics will be invaluable to us."
Serrao's departure from the NZZ marks a new chapter in his career, and he is looking forward to contributing to Axel Springer's diverse portfolio of media brands. In his new role, Serrao will bring his unique perspective and insight to the table, further strengthening Axel Springer's position as a leading global media company.
