On the evening of January 6, a fire broke out in a storage building in downtown Krefeld, Germany. The Krefeld Fire Department received multiple emergency calls at around 22:00, prompting an immediate response.

The operation to extinguish the fire involved a total of 75 personnel from both professional and volunteer fire departments, as well as emergency medical services. At one point, up to four firefighting teams in heavy breathing apparatus were engaged simultaneously.

Upon arrival, the fire had already spread to the building's facade and an apartment on the second floor. Smoke filled all the building's corridors and additional apartments. Fortunately, no one was found in the building.

The firefighting operation was completed after three hours. Throughout the operation, residents were examined by a paramedic and cared for in a provided bus. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, both during the firefighting operations and in the aftermath.

Five of the six affected apartments in the Krefeld fire were so severely damaged that the residents could no longer use them. The affected residents were accommodated with friends or relatives.
