Baseball Outlook for Holy Cross College

The Holy Cross Baseball team is off to an exciting start, with several standout performances from its players. The team, coached by Matt Blake, kicked off their season at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Matt Blake, a former Holy Cross pitcher, is now serving as the Yankees' pitching coach, and he has brought his expertise to the Holy Cross team. Blake made an appearance in the World Series with the Yankees, demonstrating his impressive track record.

Junior Sean Scandling and sophomore Jack Toomey have had great starts at the plate. Scandling boasts a .955 On-Base Plus Slugging Percentage (OPS), while Toomey has an .829 OPS. Their strong performances have been crucial to the team's success.

Junior first baseman Chris Baillargeon recently joined the Holy Cross Baseball team. He is joined by other promising players such as Ryan Grundy, a freshman first baseman from Weston, Massachusetts. Grundy had a stellar debut, going 3-6 with a triple, three runs, and two RBIs in his first full game.

Sophomores Jayden Wywoda and Danny Macchiarola also had an impressive pitching performance on the opening day, combining for 9 innings of 2 run ball and securing a 4-2 win. Macchiarola took the win for the game, while Wywoda registered a save.

Holy Cross currently has an overall record of 14-18. The team will travel to Honolulu to play the University of Hawaii for four games during spring break. The Rainbow Warriors, who had a 29-20 record from last season, including an 18-12 record in Big West conference play, will provide a challenging opponent.

The team's next series is at Kansas State, who are currently ranked 24th in the nation. Holy Cross will make its home debut on Wednesday, March 20th, at 5 PM versus UMass Lowell.

In addition to baseball, Holy Cross students have been enjoying other activities. Dozens of students went ice skating on the Worcester Common as a part of the Welcome Back programs.

The Holy Cross Baseball team is off to an exciting start, and fans are eagerly awaiting their home debut. With promising performances from players like Scandling, Toomey, Baillargeon, Grundy, and many others, the team is poised for a successful season.
