Baseball player Taylor Ward suffers injury, leaves game after colliding with scoreboard for Angels

Taylor Ward, outfielder for the Los Angeles Angels, was injured during the eighth inning of the game against the Houston Astros. The incident occurred when Ward collided face-first with a metal scoreboard in left field while attempting to catch a double hit by Ramón Uriás.

Ward was attended to by Angels personnel in the outfield before being slowly carted off the field, accompanied by a team employee. He was later taken to a hospital by ambulance. The metal scoreboard, located beyond the right-center field wall at Minute Maid Park, has raised concerns in the past about player safety.

Jo Adell, a fellow Angels outfielder, has previously expressed his concerns about the safety of out-of-town scoreboards. Adell emphasized the importance of player safety on the baseball field, stating that players should not have to worry about metal fences while making plays on the field.

Interim manager Ray Montgomery provided some details about the incident, stating that Ward hit the wall hard during the collision. Montgomery did not indicate if Ward has been evaluated for a concussion. Ward sustained a cut above his right eye during the collision, which will require stitches to close.

To fill the gap left by Ward's absence, Christian Moore replaced him in the game and moved to play second base. Luis Rengifo shifted from second base to left field after Moore's entrance. The game continued with Moore playing second base and Rengifo in left field.

Ward signaled for help immediately after the collision and was given a towel to press to his face. No further information about Ward's condition was provided in the current paragraph.

The Angels and Astros continue to play, with both teams hoping for a speedy recovery for Ward. Fans and players alike are keeping him in their thoughts as they watch the game unfold.
