Basketball player Collier forgoes a 7-match hiatus, propelling the Lynx to a 97-84 victory over the shorthanded Fever.
The Indiana Fever secured a hard-fought victory against the Minnesota Lynx on July 1, clinching the Commissioner's Cup championship with a score of 74-59.
Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with a impressive 26 points, while Shey Peddy and Aerial Powers contributed 16 and 10 points respectively. Powers also added five rebounds and three assists to her tally.
In a return from a seven-game absence, Napheesa Collier shone for the Lynx, scoring a remarkable 32 points. However, it wasn't enough to prevent the Fever from securing the championship.
The Fever's next challenge comes on Tuesday, as they host Seattle. The Lynx, on the other hand, will face the Storm on Thursday in their next game.
The Lynx had previously defeated the Fever, with a score of 95-90, but the Fever turned the tables in the championship game. Collier scored a short jumper and a 3-pointer to give the Lynx a 12-point lead just 46 seconds into the third quarter, but the Fever fought back valiantly to secure the win.
Caitlin Clark, a 23-year-old basketball superstar and point guard for the Fever, missed her 15th consecutive game due to a groin injury. Clark previously played for the Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball team and missed 24 of 37 games in the 2022 season.
Minnesota shot impressively in the game, hitting 57.1% of their field goals and 3-point attempts, and making 13 of 14 free-throws. Kayla McBride and Maria Kliundikova scored 13 points each for the Lynx, while Courtney Williams had a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists, with no turnovers. Aliyah Boston added 14 points for the Fever.
In the previous game between these two teams, the Lynx had won with a score of 97-84. Natasha Howard scored 10 points for the Fever in that game.
