The Dallas Mavericks have made a significant move in their roster, extending the contract of P.J. Washington while parting ways with Olivier-Maxence Prosper.

Washington, who joined the Mavericks in February 2024, has signed a four-year, $90 million contract extension, keeping him in Dallas through 2029-30. The extension comes after a successful season with the team, where he averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. He also shot an impressive 45.3% from the field and 38.1% from beyond the arc.

To accommodate this extension, the Mavericks decided to use the waive-and-stretch provision on Prosper's contract. This move resulted in a roughly $1 million annual cap hit for Dallas over the next three years, with the team carrying a dead money cap hit of $1,002,360 for Prosper for each of the next three seasons (through the 2027-28 season). The move allowed the Mavericks to make their signing of Dante Exum official and gain financial flexibility before the deadline to do so.

Meanwhile, Prosper, who was selected 24th overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 2023 draft before being traded to the Mavs on draft night, has found a new home with the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies have signed him to a two-way contract, filling their third and final two-way spot.

In his time with the Mavericks, Prosper logged 92 games (five starts), averaging 3.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 10 minutes per contest. He also shot 39.6% from the field and 26% from 3-point territory.

Before signing with the Grizzlies, there is no public information indicating specific teams that were interested in Prosper prior to the Dallas Mavericks waiving him in the 2022/23 offseason. It was reported that Dallas was trying to trade Prosper ahead of the 5 p.m. ET deadline to use the stretch provision, but was unwilling to part with one of their two remaining second-rounders to shed Prosper's salary.

Washington had one season left on his deal for $14.1 million and is now ineligible to be traded during the 2025-26 season. Dallas was already carrying a $2,208,856 dead money cap hit for JaVale McGee for the same years, making a total of $3,211,216 each year for the next three years.

With these moves, both teams have strengthened their rosters for the upcoming season. The Mavericks have secured the services of Washington for the long term, while the Grizzlies have added a promising young player in Prosper.
