Bavaria Experiencing Floods: THW Evacuates Schrobenhausen Residents During the Night

In the district of Pfaffenhofen, further settlements may need to be evacuated due to the impending floods. The situation in Augsburg is also critical, with the THW (Technisches Hilfswerk) deploying a specialized team today to combat oil pollution.

The THW Ortsverband Augsburg is the unit spearheading the operation in the district of Augsburg. Part of the THW Bavaria, they have mobilized over 1,000 volunteer forces to combat the flood in southern Bavaria. This deployment is expected to continue for the entire week.

The THW's efforts in separating oil from water significantly contribute to environmental protection and save costs. Water pumped out of cellars during floods can be contaminated with oil and must be treated and disposed of as special waste.

The THW is a volunteer deployment organization of the federal government with around 88,000 volunteers nationwide. They are called upon by the federal government for crises and also provide technical and logistical tasks within the EU's civil protection mechanism and on behalf of UN organizations.

The THW's efforts have already been evident in Vohburg, where high-performance pumps capable of pumping out 24,000 liters of water per minute have been put into operation to lower water levels.

In the evacuated district of Baar-Ebenhausen, residents were asked to leave their homes via loudspeaker announcements. THW forces evacuated the district at 3 a.m. using vehicles capable of crossing flooded roads and waters.

THW forces from Obernburg, Hof, and Schwandorf will prepare oil-contaminated water in the district of Augsburg. The THW, along with other deployment forces, aims to protect downstream settlements from further flooding.

Heavy rain is expected again today, and its impact on water levels is uncertain. Residents are advised to stay updated and follow the instructions of local authorities.
