- Became Coach: Dane Hjulmand at Leverkusen

After a brief interim period led by Dutchmen Rogier Meijer and Andries Ulderink, Bayer Leverkusen has announced that Kasper Hjulmand will be taking over as the club's new head coach. The news was first reported by German football magazine "Kicker", and has since been corroborated by "Bild".

Kasper Hjulmand, the former Danish national team coach, is expected to sign a contract with the Bundesliga side in the coming days. His tenure with the Danish team came to an end following a 0:2 defeat against Germany in the round of 16 of the 2024 European Championship.

Hjulmand made waves at the 2021 European Championship, where Denmark had a remarkable run, reaching the semi-finals before losing 1:2 against England. However, his time at Mainz was cut short after just three-quarters of a year, following a lack of sporting success.

The current president of Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Fernando Carro, has announced that Hjulmand is set to take over following the departure of Erik ten Hag. Ten Hag, who took over as head coach on July 1st, parted ways with the team at the beginning of September. The separation was reportedly due to a lack of sporting success, as well as personal issues between ten Hag and the players, and Bayer's functionaries.

Hjulmand is now set to oversee a major overhaul at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, with key players like Florian Wirtz, Jonathan Tah, and Granit Xhaka set to depart. The club has not yet announced a timeline for Hjulmand's official start date, but fans are eagerly awaiting the new era under his leadership.

Xabi Alonso, who had been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen as a potential replacement for ten Hag, is not mentioned as being involved in the coach transition.

Denmark had a first-round exit at the 2022 World Cup, marking the end of Hjulmand's tenure with the national team. However, his impressive performance at the 2021 European Championship has given fans hope that he can bring similar success to Bayer Leverkusen.

As Hjulmand prepares to take the helm at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, fans and pundits alike are excited to see what the future holds for the club. With a new coach and a potential overhaul of the squad, Bayer Leverkusen is poised to make a strong comeback in the Bundesliga.
