Belgian Gaming Commission Undergoes Changes

The Belgian Gaming Commission (Kansspelcommissie) has recently undergone changes, with new appointments made on September 1, 2023. The commission, which oversees the gambling industry in Belgium, is now composed of twelve effective and twelve substitute members. Each member represents a minister and serves a six-year term.

The Kansspelcommissie is divided into two chambers: one Dutch-speaking and one French-speaking. Each chamber has a chairperson. For instance, the Dutch-speaking chamber is headed by Ferdinand Van Der Gracht, who represents the Minister of Public Health. His deputy is Koen Peumans, who also represents the Minister of Economy.

In the French-speaking chamber, Astrid Heyvaert represents the Minister of Justice. She took over this position in 2023. Her deputy is Jessica Failla. Another key member of the French-speaking chamber is Anne-Loure Mouligneaux, who represents the Minister of Finance. Her deputy is Pierre Mouligneaux.

The Minister of Finance continues to oversee the Belgian lottery, and Maarten Van Sande is the deputy for Caroline Dujacquier, who represents the Minister responsible for Belgium's National Lottery. The Minister of the Interior is represented by Stéphane Obeid and Béatrice Vossen in the French-speaking and Dutch-speaking chambers, respectively. Stéphane Obeid's deputy is Philip Willekens, while Béatrice Vossen's deputy is not currently specified.

The government has also appointed 12 substitute members to the KSC, each serving a six-year term. Niek De Meester is the deputy for Daisy Vervenne, representing the Minister of Justice, and Lucas Ducarme is the deputy for Stéphane Obeid, representing the Minister of the Interior. The identities of the deputies for the other ministers are yet to be announced.

As positions in Belgian regulatory bodies can change with the current government and ministerial appointments, the most reliable and up-to-date information should be obtained from the Belgian Justice Ministry or the official website of the Kansspelcommissie at www.gamingcommission.be. It is highly likely that Astrid Heyvaert continues to represent the Minister of Justice, provided no public successor has been named.

For the most accurate and current information, it is recommended to consult the official website of the Kansspelcommissie, contact the Belgian Justice Ministry, or look for reported news about any successors to these positions. As personnel changes are common but not frequently communicated publicly, official press releases or direct contact with the ministry are the best sources for the most reliable and up-to-date information.
