Berlin Bans Dangerous Objects on Trains After Wave of Incidents
Berlin's Federal Police Directorate has imposed a temporary ban on carrying dangerous objects at certain stations from October 1st to 27th, 2025. This comes after a series of incidents involving weapons, assaults, and thefts on German trains and stations.
On September 27, a man was reported to be threatening passengers with an axe on a train between Saalfeld and Erfurt. He was later apprehended at Erfurt Central Station with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.3 per mille. Meanwhile, in Kassel, a dispute over a parked bicycle led to a man and a woman physically assaulting each other on a train.
At Lübbecke station, a 47-year-old man from Ibbenbüren was arrested for illegally trespassing on tracks and failing to pay a €900 fine. In Hamburg, a 31-year-old Ukrainian national was apprehended for stealing a backpack from a stationary ICE at the main station. In another incident, an e-scooter was thrown from a bridge onto the track of the U1, stopping a U-Bahn but injuring no passengers. A man is also being sought after stealing a woman's smartphone on an escalator at Erfurt's main station.
These incidents highlight the importance of the temporary ban on dangerous objects in Berlin. The police remind passengers that such items do not belong in luggage and threatening crimes can result in a report. Anyone with information about the ongoing cases is urged to contact local authorities.
