Berlin's pace surpriseingly accelerates
Berlin, the vibrant capital of Germany, is making significant strides in various areas. Katharina Günther-Wünsch, Senator for Education, has announced that all timely submitted applications for teacher civil servant status will be processed by the end of this year, a year earlier than originally planned. This move aims to eliminate any disadvantages Berlin may have faced in the competition with other states for educational personnel.
In 2023, Berlin returned to granting civil servant status to teachers after an 18-year interruption, aligning with the standard practice in all other federal states. This change was prompted by the reality that many Berlin teaching interns had gone to other federal states to obtain civil servant status.
As of August 1, approximately 9,350 teaching staff have been converted to civil servants, with around 2,375 applications still in process. Each month, around 500 such teaching staff are converted to civil servant status. The possibility of obtaining civil servant status is available to teachers who have previously worked at Berlin schools under an employee contract, provided they meet certain conditions.
Berlin is not just focusing on education, but also on culture and entertainment. The city has a packed schedule for 2025, with several exciting events planned. The Federal Government's Open Day, the Lesbian and Gay City Festival, the Christopher Street Day, the Long Night of Museums, the Love Train, and the Meteor Shower Night are just a few of the events that Berliners and visitors can look forward to.
However, the exact date for the dpa-copyrighted event remains undisclosed. Another highly anticipated event is the Tokio Hotel concert, but the date for this event is yet to be scheduled in 2025.
In addition to these events, the weather forecast for Tuesday includes morning mist and an increasing likelihood of thunderstorms in the west from Tuesday afternoon.
Berlin is progressing faster than anticipated in the process of civil servant status conversion for previously employed teaching staff, a move that will undoubtedly strengthen Berlin's position in the competition for educational personnel. The city's commitment to education and its vibrant cultural scene make it an attractive destination for both residents and visitors alike.
