Bicyclist flees scene, disregards traffic lights, and initiates accident in Recklinghausen/Herten/Herne

In the early hours of this morning, a high-speed chase involving a stolen scooter took place in Recklinghausen and Herne.

The incident began around 2 AM when patrol officers noticed two individuals riding a scooter on the Herner Street in Recklinghausen, as they were not wearing helmets. Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that the scooter had been reported stolen.

The driver failed to stop when signaled by the police and fled, leading to a pursuit that spanned both cities. During the chase, the driver disregarded several red lights and collided with parked vehicles. The two individuals on the scooter, aged 17 and 18, are from Herne and were slightly injured.

There is suspicion that the 17-year-old driver was under the influence of drugs. A preliminary test was positive, and a blood sample was taken at the station for further analysis. It was also found that suspected cannabis was present during the search.

The chase ended in Herne after the driver collided with parked vehicles. The search results do not specify the name or identity of the officer leading the hunt for the stolen scooter.
