In the vibrant city of Hamm, Germany, cycling is becoming an increasingly popular mode of transportation. The City Planning Department, headed by Andreas Mentz, City Planning Officer (Stadtbaurat), is at the forefront of this movement. The Lippe park, a picturesque location in Hamm, is one of the many places where cycling is taking place. This shift towards cycling can be attributed to the Corona pandemic, which has seen an increased use of bicycles in the city.

Stadtradeln, a competition open to anyone who lives, works, or learns in Hamm, aims to encourage citizens to cycle in their daily lives. The competition is part of the city's commitment to the STADTRADELN campaign of the European Climate Alliance, which Hamm has been participating in for the 12th time.

Participants in the competition keep an online cycling calendar to record their daily kilometres. In the 2024 competition, there were 1,405 participants in 95 teams. The competition saw a total of 302,581 km cycled and 50 tonnes of CO2 saved.

The city is expanding and improving its cycling network to support this trend. The 11 signposted main cycling routes in Hamm are currently being upgraded for safety and comfort. More detailed information about Stadtradeln 2025 can be found in a PDF document available on the city's website.
