Bike trail emerges on Dornaer Street
In the city of Mertendorf, preparatory measures are underway for the second phase of an ambitious bike path project. This phase will extend the path from Am Speitewitz 216 to Dornaer Straße, adding 840 meters to the existing 400-meter first phase that runs from Schäfereistraße to Am Bieblacher Bach.
The extended bike path, when combined with the first phase, will form a 2.380-meter-long continuous route. The path will have a uniform width of 2.50 meters, ensuring ample space for cyclists, and on both sides, there will be 0.50-meter-wide shoulder strips for added safety.
The construction company Naumburger Bauunion GmbH & Co. KG from Mertendorf has been selected to carry out the construction and necessary replanting for both phases of the project.
The good news for the city is that 90% of the eligible costs for both phases will be covered by federal and Thuringian state funding. The total costs for the second phase are approximately 480,000 euros, while the total costs for both phases are estimated to be around 1.24 million euros.
In addition to the bike path, three 2-meter-wide path connections will be created to the residential area Am Trebnitzer Kreuz in the second phase, enhancing the overall connectivity of the project.
This investment in cycling infrastructure is a significant step towards promoting sustainable transportation in Mertendorf and contributing to a greener future for the city.
