"Blaze Bayley's initial solo album, released 25 years ago, failed to gain mainstream success - however, he's now planning a concert tour to revisit it"
In the world of heavy metal, three fresh and exciting bands - Tailgunner, Green Lung, and Wytch Hazel - are making waves, but let's take a trip down memory lane to focus on a veteran artist who's back with a bang. Blaze Bayley, the former Iron Maiden vocalist, is currently on an anniversary tour performing his debut solo album, Silicon Messiah, in its entirety.
Silicon Messiah, a quarter of a century old, is finally coming to life and doing what Blaze Bayley always hoped it would. The album, first released in 2000, was a labour of love that saw Blaze drawing upon ideas for his third album with Iron Maiden, which eventually became the core of Silicon Messiah.
The market for music, unless an artist is in the top ten percent, seems to be shrinking by the month. Yet, Blaze Bayley is undeterred. He prefers small rooms and chooses independent venues, connecting with fans in an intimate setting. After shows at these independent venues, Blaze Bayley is often asked to return the next year.
The album's release in 2000 was a challenging time. Silicon Messiah was released in the same week as Iron Maiden's Brave New World, and it got completely overshadowed. However, the resilient artist persevered, learning many lessons from working with Steve Harris that came out with the album.
Blaze Bayley's journey hasn't been without its setbacks. His next album, Tenth Dimension, also had low visibility. But there's an interesting tale behind the re-recording of his band Wolfsbane's 1989 debut album Live Fast, Die Fast. The logic behind this move was due to lost master tapes, issues with production, and a desire to put things right. As of now, there has been no feedback from Rick Rubin regarding the re-recording.
Despite being outside of the mainstream, Blaze Bayley embraces this independence. He's now completely independent and works with a great team. His Silicon Messiah tour is now underway, giving fans a chance to reconnect with a classic album and share in the energy of a seasoned artist who continues to push boundaries.
