Bloomberg Introduces a New Line-up of Eco-friendly Investment Indices, Offering Adjustable Exclusion Standards

Bloomberg has announced the launch of the Bloomberg Screened Choice Indices, a new suite of equity benchmarks designed for sustainable investment products. The indices provide transparent and customizable sustainable investment solutions, enabling investors to integrate their own choice of sustainability exclusions into their portfolios.

The index suite uses a modular methodology, bundling exclusions into six most common themes. The six modules include a "Core" module, which excludes companies active in thermal coal production, tobacco production, controversial weapons, non-compliance with UN Global Compact Principles, and more focused exclusions like Fossil Fuels and Non-Renewable Energy.

Another module is the "Fossil Fuels Enhanced," which expands on the Core module's fossil fuel exclusions. The "Vice Products" module excludes companies involved in adult entertainment, alcohol, gambling, and tobacco. The "Weapons" module excludes companies involved in the production or sale of controversial weapons.

Investors can individually select or combine modules, or use the modules as an overlay in combination with other Bloomberg equity index strategies. The indices offer a flexible framework to meet clients' needs, whether they have explicit exclusion policies or seek a foundational benchmark off-the-shelf.

Zarina Nasib, Global Head of Sustainable Indices Index Product at Bloomberg Index Services Limited, stated that the launch of Screened Choice Indices is an investment in expanding the equities offering. "The indices are designed for sustainable investment products, and we believe they will provide our clients with the tools they need to build portfolios that align with their sustainability goals," she said.

It's worth noting that the "Controversial Conduct" module excludes companies that have been flagged as violating UNGC Principles or involved in severe ESG controversies. The indices include Bloomberg Select Indices, which includes a Core module configuration, and the Bloomberg Select FossilEX Indices, which include the Core, Fossil Fuels, and Non-Renewable Energy modules.

No relevant information was found in the search results regarding which institution announced the introduction of the Bloomberg Screened Choice Indices. However, with this new suite of indices, Bloomberg is launching 66 off-the-shelf indices based on module configurations, offering a comprehensive range of sustainable investment solutions for investors.
