Boarding Procedures and Groups at Air France - Comprehensive Guide for Passengers

Air France has a streamlined boarding process that makes travel more efficient for passengers. The airline uses boarding zones numbered 1 to 5, with a separate preboarding group, to ensure a smooth and orderly boarding process.

Passengers traveling in premium economy are assigned to zone 3. Those in business class, Flying Blue Ultimate status holders, Club 2000 and Skipper status holders, and their companions are assigned to zone 1. Flying Blue Platinum and Gold status holders, SkyTeam Elite Plus status members from other airlines, and their companions are in zone 2. Flying Blue Silver members traveling in economy class are also assigned to zone 3.

Air France Sky Priority passengers, which include holders of the Flying Blue Elite, Premium Voyageur, and Premium Economy Voyageur status, as well as SkyTeam Elite Plus members, board in either zone 1 or 2. Basic economy passengers, known as Economy Light by Air France, board last, in zone 5.

Preboarding is available for passengers with mobility issues, unaccompanied minors, and families traveling with children 6 and under. Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard holders, issued by Bank of America, have a priority boarding benefit, placing them into zone 3 on Air France flights.

The boarding process begins approximately 50 minutes before departure for most flights. Flights departing Paris-Orly (ORY) and heading to domestic destinations in France end boarding 15 minutes before departure. Boarding will end 20 minutes before departure, regardless of the departure airport (CDG or the U.S. to Paris).

Signs at the boarding gate indicate where passengers should line up based on their zone, and employees ensure correct lining up, especially for groups 1 and 2. If a flight is delayed, the estimated boarding time will be communicated in the Air France mobile app and on signs in the airport.

In addition to earning miles from flying with Air France or KLM, Flying Blue members can also earn miles from daily spending on the Air France KLM World Elite card. Flying Blue also has numerous partnerships that allow you to earn miles on rental cars, hotel stays, guided tours, concerts, shopping, and more.

Flying Blue Promo Rewards offer monthly discounts on award tickets with Air France and KLM if you use miles to book the flights on that month's list. To make the most of your travel experience with Air France, be sure to sign up for the Flying Blue programme and take advantage of the various ways to earn and use miles.
