Body found in Frankish Baggersee reveals clues
On Tuesday, 19th August 2025, a tragic discovery was made at the Dettelbach gravel pit. Two police officers, who were out privately in the area, stumbled upon a body approximately ten meters from the shore, with the head submerged in the water.
Immediately, the local fire brigade, HvO Dettelbach, and the police sprang into action. A total of 18 water rescue service personnel from Dettelbach, Sulzfeld, and Volkach groups were on site. The bathing bay had to be cleared, and the area was cordoned off for the operation.
The high temperatures necessitated a wide cordoning off of the area to ensure undisturbed work. Unfortunately, the man was pulled out of the lake dead. Despite the efforts of the rescue team, they were unable to revive him.

The police are currently assuming that the person is between 20 and 30 years old. The man did not appear to be from the local area, as recordings from the surveillance camera at Würzburg main station showed his arrival on Friday, 15th August 2025.
Some passers-by were turned away during the operation, and the cordoning off was challenging due to heavy traffic on the lake. The police took over further investigations after the water rescue service finished their operation.
This incident comes shortly after two girls died in a swimming accident at a Schweinfurt lake. The autopsy will determine the cause of death, but no current date has been set. The identity of the man is still unknown.
