Border Returns Increase Dramatically, Dobrindt Reports, Citing 12,000 Incidents Since May

Alexander Dobrindt, the Federal Minister of the Interior and a member of the CSU political party, has been at the forefront of strengthening Germany's border controls since taking office in May 2025.

In a recent statement made on the ARD program "Caren Miosga", Dobrindt emphasised the need to ensure that integration and stress limits are not exceeded, as Germany has been rejecting 12,000 illegal entries at its borders since May 8. Approximately 660 of these rejections were asylum seekers.

Dobrindt's goal is to correct the situation and end the "overburdening of Germany". He stated that the number of asylum claims is low due to the increased rejections at the border. However, Dobrindt did not want to summarise his stance on migration in a single figure, declining to commit to a specific figure for an upper limit on migration.

Dobrindt's approach to border rejections has been legally controversial. The intensified control at Germany's external borders has been in place since the new federal government took office, and asylum seekers can now be rejected at the border under Dobrindt's policy.

The statement about the low number of asylum claims has spread quickly, with Dobrindt emphasising the need to maintain control over immigration to prevent integration and stress limits from being exceeded. Dobrindt's goal is to correct the situation and end the "overburdening of Germany".

Despite the controversy surrounding his policies, Dobrindt remains firm in his stance, stating that a problem situation has developed over a decade and that it is his duty to address it. As the Interior Minister of Germany and a member of the CSU political party, Dobrindt is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the German people.
