The Boston Red Sox are preparing for a thrilling three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians, starting on Monday, with high stakes in the American League (AL) Wild-Card race.

Alex Cora, the Red Sox's manager, has made a strategic move to bolster the team's roster by acquiring catcher Ali Sanchez. This addition comes as the Red Sox have been performing exceptionally well in their starting pitching, with a strong closer in Aroldis Chapman.

Cora's decision to bring in Sanchez is driven by the benefits he believes the backup catcher will bring to the team, especially in the upcoming games. The move also comes amidst the team's relatively good health, although Cora has expressed concern about the potential for injuries.

Meanwhile, Masataka Yoshida, the professional baseball outfielder for the Red Sox, has been turning things around in his last two games. Yoshida, who debuted in Major League Baseball (MLB) before the 2023 season and has played through 2025, including a return from shoulder surgery, has been praised by Cora for his improved performance.

Yoshida has been seeing the ball better and has been able to stay on pitches going the other way, according to Cora. The manager is confident that Yoshida will find consistency and continue to contribute positively to the team's efforts.

The Red Sox have been in excellent form at Fenway Park, boasting a 21-5 record since June 4, with a 14-2 record in their last 16 home games. This form has helped the team close the gap with the Yankees, who they currently trail by half a game in the AL Wild Card standings.

Carlos Narvaez, another catcher, who was previously injured, has since recovered and is ready to provide support if needed. Cora has expressed confidence in the team's ability to stay healthy, but also in Sanchez's ability to help if necessary.

As the race for the wild-card heats up with September approaching, the Red Sox are determined to make the most of their home advantage and continue their impressive form. With the addition of Sanchez and the resurgence of Yoshida, the team seems to be in good shape for the upcoming games against the Guardians.
