The 2025 World Boxing Championships are set to make history as the first elite-level global event where men and women compete side by side under the same roof. The tournament, taking place at Liverpool's M&S Bank Arena from Thursday, will feature more than 550 boxers from over 60 countries.

Turkey's boxing squad consists of 20 boxers, with an equal number of men and women. The team collectively blends veteran leadership with emerging stars, making them a contender in nearly every weight class.

Ayşe Çağırır, a member of Turkey's women's team, won a bronze medal at the 2023 European Championships. She will be joined by Buse Naz Çakıroğlu, a silver medalist from Tokyo and a technical master, and Busenaz Sürmeneli, an Olympic champion and a favourite for the podium in her weight class (65 kg.).

The Turkish men's roster is led by 2024 Strandja champion Samet Ersoy (85 kg.) and 2022 World silver medalist Emrah Yaşar (90 kg.). Olympic hopefuls Büşra Işıldar (75 kg.), Mücahit İlyas (super heavyweight (+90 kg.)), and Sultan Osmanlı (75 kg.) add firepower to the team.

The 11,000-seat arena will host both preliminary bouts and marquee clashes. Performances in Liverpool will influence world rankings and contribute to qualification pathways for the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

The tournament is provisionally recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). World Boxing (WB) is the new governing body of the event, taking over after the IOC's derecognition of the IBA in 2023. The 2025 tournament represents a historic moment for athletes worldwide due to WB's emphasis on governance, anti-doping, and fair play.

Although the strongest boxing team at the 2025 World Boxing Championships is not explicitly stated in the search results, it is clear that Turkey is poised to make a strong showing in Liverpool.
