In a recent development, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) has sent an official request to heavyweight champion Alexander Usik for new medical documents regarding his back injury. The request comes after videos of Usik dancing at a charity event were posted on social networks, raising doubts among WBO officials about the accuracy of his medical reports.
The videos, reported by Boxing Scene, were taken at the AL FRESCO restaurant near Kyiv. Usik underwent an examination in Spain, where doctors confirmed spinal problems and recommended a month of rest and a month of therapy. However, the findings from this examination are now being questioned.
The new examination for Usik should take place no later than Monday, September 1, according to a letter from the WBO. The organization requires detailed information about the diagnosis, recovery prognosis, and all medical recommendations. If the documents are not provided, the WBO committee reserves the right to take measures in accordance with the regulations.
Joseph Parker's team has expressed outrage about Usik's dancing, with Parker's promoter, David Higgins, stating that Parker is ready for a fight with any opponent and wants to return to the ring as soon as possible. Higgins hopes the match between Usik and Parker will take place later this year.
The bout between Usik and Parker could potentially still take place, according to Higgins. This could potentially affect the scheduled bout between the two, which has already been delayed at the request of the Ukrainian side.
