On the afternoon of September 28, 2020, a troubling incident occurred on the Upper Erft near the Pierburg Bridge in Neuss. Rowers called the police for help at around 5:30 PM, reporting that a stone had fallen into the water close to their boat.

The incident is being treated as a criminal act, not a mere prank, due to its potential danger to the rowers. The youths involved, estimated to be 4 to 5 teenagers, including at least one girl, were predominantly dressed in dark clothing. They fled from Rheintorstraße towards Industriestraße after the incident.
