Dallas Cowboys End Disappointing Preseason with Slim Victory Over Atlanta Falcons

The Dallas Cowboys concluded their preseason schedule with a 1-2 record, securing a narrow victory over the Atlanta Falcons in a 31-13 matchup. However, the victory failed to erase the disappointment of another disappointing campaign for the team, as they missed out on the NFL Playoffs during the 2024 season.

The Cowboys' offense showcased some promising signs, with the acquisition of wide receiver George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers proving to be a significant boost. Last season, Pickens posted an impressive 900 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and he seemed to continue his form in the preseason game against the Falcons.

Brandon Aubrey, the Cowboys' kicker, also had a standout performance. In the same preseason game, Aubrey made a 64-yard field goal, setting a new personal best and breaking the official NFL record for the longest field goal, which was previously held by Justin Tucker at 66 yards. It was the only field-goal attempt for Aubrey in the game, and he completed 40 out of 47 attempts during the 2024 NFL season.

Despite these positives, the Cowboys' struggles continued. They managed to win only 7 games during the 2024 season, and their last appearance in the Super Bowl was back in 1995, when they secured their most recent victory in the championship series. The team has not won the Super Bowl since then, with a 30-year drought looming over their heads.

Pickens, who seemed unhappy with his tenure at the Pittsburgh Steelers, will be hoping to help the Cowboys turn their fortunes around in the 2025 season. The team is eager to put the disappointments of the 2024 season behind them and make a strong push for the playoffs next year.

Meanwhile, the Atlanta Falcons finished their preseason schedule without a win. The loss to the Cowboys was their third consecutive defeat, and they will be looking to regroup and improve ahead of the new season.

Elsewhere, other teams were making headlines. The Jacksonville Jaguars' kicker Cam Little booted a 70-yard field goal earlier this summer, while the Tennessee Titans' kicker Joey Slye made a 63-yard field goal on the same night as Aubrey's 64-yarder.

As the NFL season approaches, all eyes will be on the Cowboys as they look to break their 30-year Super Bowl drought and return to the top of the league. The team will be hoping that the acquisition of George Pickens and the strong form shown by Brandon Aubrey are signs of better things to come in the 2025 season.
