Brentford player Wissa seeks departure from the club due to Newcastle's reported interest
Brentford striker Yoane Wissa has expressed his desire to depart from the club, following a summer of open discussions and seemingly broken promises. The 27-year-old, who scored 19 Premier League goals in 35 appearances last season, has taken to social media to voice his frustration.
According to reports, Wissa held discussions with Brentford's senior management this summer, with the club initially stating they would not stand in his way if a reasonable offer was received. However, Brentford has since changed its position, going against what was communicated earlier.
Wissa feels that staying beyond the transfer window would "tarnish four wonderful years at this incredible club". He has maintained total respect for the club and its fans, while insisting that Brentford honour their promise to let him join a new club and at a fair price.
Keith Andrews, Brentford's manager, expects Wissa to stay with the club, but the striker has accused the club of failing to keep their promises on social media. Wissa has sought to find a new club, keeping Brentford informed with full transparency.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United are still actively looking to sign another attacker. The Magpies made an offer worth £40m plus £5m in add-ons for Wissa earlier this week, but their bids have been rejected so far.
Alexander Isak's future may be resolved by Monday's transfer deadline, as he has refused to play for Newcastle since halfway through pre-season. Nick Woltemade joined Brentford on Saturday, potentially easing some of Newcastle's striking concerns.
Jorgen Strand Larsen is another mooted target for Newcastle, but Wolves have turned down two offers. Wissa is not the only striker on Newcastle's radar, as they continue their pursuit for attacking reinforcements.
It's not just Wissa who has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the club. Christian Nørgaard, another Brentford player, announced that he would openly express his frustration over social media about the behaviour of Brentford's leadership circle, due to not being able to move away from the club as previously announced.
Wissa has received a formal offer from another Premier League club and communicated his intent to join. As the transfer deadline approaches, it remains to be seen whether Brentford will relent and allow Wissa to depart, or if they will hold onto their prized asset.
