In the bustling city of Chicago, IL, lives a talented designer and illustrator named Brian Rau. With a passion for branding, identity, illustration, and packaging, Rau has made a name for himself in the design community.

Rau's recent leap into full-time freelance work has allowed him to focus on a multitude of personal projects, one of which is his fascination with the human form. He has been trying to incorporate this element into his work, creating pieces that are both captivating and thought-provoking.

When it comes to his tools, Rau prefers the simplicity of a MacBook Pro 15-inch (2017), a Magic Mouse, and Adobe Illustrator. Occasionally, he uses a Wacom Cintiq 13-inch for more detailed work. However, his favourite method of sketching remains old-school - with pencil and paper.

Rau's sources of inspiration are as varied as his projects. He finds himself drawn to fantasy and lore, the allure of travelling, and the talent of other designers and illustrators in the community.

One design that particularly caught Rau's eye is the Preacher stained-glass '18 design by Daniel Seong for Preacher SXSW 2018. The design, which symbolises the end of one life and the beginning of another, impressed Rau due to the challenge of designing stained-glass.

Rau's own work can be found on Dribbble, Instagram, and his personal website (brianrau.com). For a deeper insight into his work, interviews, and related stories, one can visit the Courtside blog. A favourite shot of Rau's represents his passion for his work and his style.

Before embarking on his freelance journey, Rau worked for a few design and advertising agencies around Chicago. His educational background includes a degree from Northern Illinois University.

Rau is also interested in doing work for the LGBTQ community, reflecting his commitment to diversity and inclusivity in his work.

When not immersed in his work, Rau can often be found working remotely in coffee shops, taking advantage of their free wifi. The city's vibrant design scene and its diverse community continue to inspire Rau, as he continues to create captivating and thought-provoking work.
