Building the newest East Primary School
Construction of a new three-winged elementary school named "Ost" is underway in the eastern part of Landshut, at "Am Schallermoos". The school, which is expected to educate 300 elementary school children starting from the school year 2025/26, will operate under the concept of cooperative full-day care, known as the education house.
The school's design consists of a three-part building with two floors, housing all functions under one roof. The building will be constructed using mixed construction - solid construction in the ground floor with visible concrete and masonry, and wooden construction in the upper floor. The roof will be extensively greened.
The school will include a cafeteria, a simple gymnasium, and a sports hall that is integrated into the building. The sports hall, which is also of mixed design, will be used for both school sports and afternoon leisure activities. Access to the school and teacher parking lots is via "Am Schallermoos".
Each floor will have a multi-purpose room that can be used as a sleeping room or for other activities. Each learning house will be equipped with three classrooms, two group rooms, and a spacious central learning center. Each smaller group room will have a kitchen for the preparation of breakfast, afternoon snacks, or leisure activities such as baking and cooking in the after-school care.
All classrooms will be equipped with state-of-the-art media technology, including interactive large-screen monitors and tablet computers. The building will be heated with remote heat, and a large photovoltaic system will be installed on the gymnasium.
The school will feature decentralized learning areas, known as the "learning houses" concept. A holding lane is provided for pick-up and drop-off traffic in front of the music school/corner of Niedermayer Street to calm traffic.
The current budget estimate for the new elementary school is 36 million euros, with the city's own contribution being around 24 million euros. Earthworks for the new construction will begin on July 10th, 2023, and the shell construction is scheduled to begin in October.
The department for building and environment is overseeing the construction, and the school is expected to be ready for operation by the school year 2025/26. The midday meal will be freshly prepared in the preparation kitchen. The school's construction will bring a modern and sustainable learning environment to the children of Landshut.
