FlixBus Expands to Australia, Marking Fifth Continental Presence

European bus and train service provider, FlixBus, has announced its entry into the Australian market, marking its presence on its fifth continent. The move comes at the start of the country's summer travel season, a period that promises high demand for long-distance travel.

FlixBus, with over a decade of success in Europe, North America, and continued strong growth in Latin America and India, has long had Australia on its radar. However, the unique geography of the continent made entry more challenging. The potential for growth in Australia was always clear, and the company is now seizing the opportunity.

Yvan Lefranc-Morin, a veteran at FlixBus with over a decade of experience in France and the Benelux markets, has been appointed as Senior Managing Director for Australia. He will be relocating to Sydney to lead the newly established Australian office and manage partnerships with local transport operators.

Local operators will handle vehicle provision and on-the-ground logistics, while FlixBus will provide booking platforms, customer service, and branding. The specific routes and schedules for FlixBus's services in Australia have not yet been announced.

The Asia-Pacific intercity coach market is expected to see steady growth, with a compound annual growth rate of 12.2% between 2023 and 2028. This expansion forms part of FlixBus's wider regional strategy, as it sees Australia not only as a standalone market opportunity but also as a key component of its broader Asian strategy.

Since its founding, FlixBus has transported over 500 million passengers and connects more than 6,800 destinations globally. The company's services in Australia will be provided using its established partnership model.

FlixBus's global journey continues, and the entry into the Australian market is a significant step towards its goal of making sustainable and affordable travel accessible to all. The official expansion was announced on July 10, 2025, with services expected to start in time for the region’s summer travel season.
