Business Foundations: Exploring the Essentials of Entrepreneurship
The Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship at MIT is set to host the "2014 Legatum Conference: Elements of Entrepreneurship" on May 10. This event promises to be a gathering of minds, as it brings together entrepreneurs, investors, scholars, and business leaders from developing countries.
The conference, open to the MIT community and the public, will feature a diverse lineup of panelists who have made significant strides in various sectors across the globe.
Among the panelists is Santiago Pinto, a serial entrepreneur and investor, known for his ventures in more than 15 countries. Joining him is David Auerbach, an MIT Sloan graduate and co-founder of Sanergy, who will discuss advancing agri-business in Africa alongside other remarkable entrepreneurs.
Habib Haddad, founder and CEO of Wamda, and Christine Kenna, a principal at IGNIA, are also set to share their experiences and insights. They have faced and overcome policy hurdles, poor infrastructure, lack of talent, funding issues, and numerous other obstacles in their entrepreneurial journeys.
Enrique Bay, whose business is in early stage development, will discuss the obstacles and opportunities he has found in Mexico since graduating from MIT. The conference will also feature Sara Menker of Gro Intelligence and David Reich of Assured Labor, among other accomplished entrepreneurs.
The keynote speakers for the event are Jeff Hoffman, founder of Priceline.com, uBid.com, and ColorJar, and Julie Meyer, founder of Ariadne Capital and Entrepreneur Country. They will present their views on global entrepreneurship.
The panels at the conference will focus on agribusiness in Africa, technology ventures in Latin America, energy production in Asia, and entrepreneurial growth in the Arabian Gulf region.
Franklin Chang Diaz PhD '77, a physicist, astronaut, and entrepreneur, will join the panel to discuss technology ventures.
