BYD Delivers 10,000th Electric Vehicle in India

In a significant development, BYD, a leading Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, has reached a major milestone in India by delivering its 10,000th electric vehicle (EV). The delivery comes at a time when tensions between India and China appear to be easing.

The announcement was made on the semi-official Weibo account @小迪快报, sharing a celebratory video of BYD India marking the milestone. The Chinese company, with ticker symbols HKG: 1211 and OTCMKTS: BYDDY, has launched four models in India - the all-electric MPV BYD eMax 7, the electric sedan Seal, the SUV Atto 3, and the Sealion 7, which began accepting pre-orders in India in late January.

The Sealion 7, known as the Sealion 07 in China, is one of the vehicles that contributed to this significant delivery milestone. It's worth noting that this marks Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first visit to China since the 2020 border standoff. During his visit, Chinese leaders emphasized the potential for China and India to become partners.

However, it's important to mention that in July 2023, reports indicated that BYD sought approval from Indian authorities to build a NEV factory locally but was denied. More recently, reports suggest that India has rejected BYD's proposal for a $1 billion plant. Despite this setback, BYD plans to expand its Indian dealer network to 40 locations by January 2025.

Despite the lack of specific details, it's clear that the delivery of the 10,000th NEV in India signifies a growing interest in electric vehicles in the country. The exact vehicle that marked this milestone could not be identified from the available data. However, it's a testament to BYD's commitment to the Indian market and its potential for continued growth in the EV sector.
