Headline: Maryland State Police Crack Down on Risky Driving Behaviors During Last Weekend of Summer

With the last weekend of summer upon us, the Maryland State Police are reminding drivers to maintain responsibility on the roads. This call to action comes as state troopers from all 23 barracks locations are conducting high-visibility patrols to crack down on impaired, distracted, and aggressive driving.

These patrols, which will be ongoing between now and Monday, will take place on major roads and highways across the state. The Maryland State Police are setting up checkpoints at these locations to combat risky driving behaviors caused by alcohol, distraction, and aggressive driving.

According to Maryland State Police Major Hasim Johnson, "Safety is our top priority. We want everyone to enjoy the last weekend of summer, but we also want to ensure that everyone gets home safely."

Over the past five years, nearly 1000 deaths in Maryland have been related to impaired drivers. This statistic underscores the importance of the state police's efforts to keep the roads safe.

Meanwhile, Ashley Paul, a reporter for WJZ, is encouraging her viewers to take safety precautions as well. Paul, who joined the WJZ team as a reporter in December 2024, has told stories across various locations including Maine, Central Pennsylvania, and Tampa. She recently won a Florida Association of Broadcast Journalists award in the "Multi-Media Journalist In a Large Market" category.

Paul, who is happy to call Charm City home, is reminding viewers that safety tips should be kept in mind all the time to ensure safety for everyone. Brie Ali and Devram Kissoon of Overlea plan to use designated drivers or rideshare services for safe transportation during the holiday weekend.

Jacob Morrisson of Federal Hill is using a different means of transportation in Baltimore - the water taxi. This choice of transportation has been approved by Major Trooper Johnson, who emphasizes the importance of safety for impaired drivers in Maryland.

As AAA estimates that 38 million cars will be on the road this holiday weekend, it's important for everyone to do their part in ensuring a safe journey for all. Let's all take responsibility and enjoy the last weekend of summer safely.
