Campaign initiated for financial aid to the deceased officer's kin
In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the Saarland police unions (BDK, DPolG, and GdP) have initiated a fundraising campaign to support the family of a police officer who was fatally shot in Völklingen. The 34-year-old officer, identified as Simon B., lost his life following an armed robbery at a local gas station on Thursday.
Simon B., a dedicated and respected member of the Saarland police force, had been pursuing a fleeing suspect on foot with two colleagues after the robbery. Tragically, the suspect allegedly managed to wrestle a police officer's service weapon away and fired multiple shots, fatally wounding Simon B. He later passed away in a hospital.
The family he leaves behind includes a wife and two young children, who are understandably struggling to come to terms with this devastating loss. The police family is also reported to be in shock, finding it difficult to find the words to describe the situation. A statement from the unions expressed their shock and lack of words to describe the situation.
The fundraising campaign, launched on the online platform GoFundMe, aims to ensure the family's secure future. Notably, a privately organized GoFundMe campaign had previously collected nearly 200,000 euros for the widow before the union's fundraising effort began. Every donation, big or small, is encouraged to support the family in their time of need.
The police officer had dedicated half of his life to the Saarland police, serving as a protector of the state's citizens. A statement from the unions emphasized their aim to protect the family from financial worries during this difficult time. The "World" reported on this previous campaign, which was discontinued at the start of the union's fundraising effort.
The suspect in the shooting is an 18-year-old individual. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as information becomes available. In the meantime, the focus remains on supporting the family of the fallen officer.
The fundraising campaign has already received an outpouring of support from the community, demonstrating the deep respect and gratitude held for Simon B. and the sacrifices he made in the line of duty. If you wish to contribute, please visit the GoFundMe campaign page.
