Canadian Prime Minister announces that Russian President Putin remains unyielding in pursuit of peace
In a significant development, Mark Carney, a member of the Canadian Government, has called for maximum pressure to be exerted on Russia in relation to the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. Speaking on September 5, 2023, Carney emphasised that the leader of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, has not accepted the need for peace.
Carney's statements were made in the context of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has resulted in numerous casualties. According to Carney, Putin is the cause of the war and the deaths that have resulted.
The United States, under Donald Trump’s presidency, has also demanded that NATO member countries stop buying Russian oil before the U.S. would impose new significant sanctions on Russia. The EU has already imposed an embargo on Russian oil imports by ship and refined products, though some countries continue to buy Russian fossil fuels like liquefied gas.
Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, has been actively involved in these discussions. She had a telephone conversation with the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, about joint efforts to exert sanctions pressure on Russia. Von der Leyen also plans to visit EU countries in the coming weeks to coordinate military aid to Kyiv within the framework of the SAFE mechanism in the defense industry.
The Prime Minister of Canada has confirmed that the next round of sanctions against Russia is being prepared by Ukraine's allies. Mark Carney stated that the pressure on Russia will involve the introduction of new sanctions and ensuring the arming of Ukrainian troops.
In a related development, von der Leyen discussed with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi the role of India in stopping the war between Russia and Ukraine and contributing to the peace process. A material titled "150 billion euros for rearmament: what is SAFE and what Ukraine can get from it" is recommended for further reading by "European Truth."
It is clear that the international community, including Canada and the EU, is determined to exert maximum pressure on Russia in the hope of bringing an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The support for Ukraine will continue after the cessation of military actions, as stated by Mark Carney. The Ukrainian Defense Forces are also expected to play a crucial role in this pressure campaign.
