Canadian self-declared monarch's bail granted during Saskatchewan court hearing
Romana Didulo, who claims the title of "Queen of Canada," was granted bail in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, following her arrest at a decommissioned school in Richmound last week.
Didulo, along with 15 others, was taken into custody on charges that remain undisclosed. The incident occurred at a school building that has been the headquarters of Didulo's "Kingdom of Canada" group since 2023.
The bail hearing for Didulo took place on Monday morning. Despite Judge Alan Jacobson's recommendation for Didulo to hire a lawyer, she chose to represent herself during the proceedings.
Didulo's bail conditions include staying at a residence in Regina around the clock, unless granted permission to leave by a probation officer. She is also prohibited from having any contact with Ricky Manz and must not possess any weapons.
Health officials have declared parts of the decommissioned school unfit for human habitation, and they have prohibited anyone from living at the school in Richmound.
RCMP officers seized 13 imitation semi-automatic handguns, ammunition, and electronic devices from the school during the arrests.
The charge against Didulo is related to breaching a court order and attempting to intimidate a justice system participant. The exact nature of these allegations has not been disclosed.
Didulo is due back in court on Wednesday, Sept. 17. The information in this article is sourced from The Canadian Press.
The decommissioned school where Didulo's group has been situated is located nearly 450 kilometres west of Regina. Didulo's "Kingdom of Canada" was founded in the decommissioned school building in Richmound in 2022.
This is a developing story and more information will be released as it becomes available.
