Captured Suspect Said to be a Burglar on the Run
Early Sunday morning (August 10), a burglary took place at a supermarket on Fischbachstraße in Bergheim. The Rhein-Erft District Police responded promptly to the incident, securing the vehicle and the suspected stolen goods, as well as apprehending two suspects.
According to preliminary investigations, the burglars forced open the emergency exit door of the supermarket and repeatedly entered the store, loading several bags of stolen goods into their getaway car, a Citroën Saxo. The police noticed the fleeing vehicle and gave chase, eventually cornering the suspects in Quadrath-Ichendorf, Bergheim.
The suspects, both 19 years old, surrendered without resistance upon being confronted by several patrol vehicles. A preliminary test confirmed the suspicion of cannabis consumption, leading officers to order a blood test for the driver due to suspicions of intoxicant use.
The investigation into the burglary is ongoing, with multiple units within the Rhein-Erft District Police involved. The officers of Criminal Investigation Unit 21 and the Traffic Investigation Unit are leading the further investigation.
