Capturing unity through lenses: the photo project emphasizing camaraderie
In the heart of Mumbai, the ancient discipline of Kushti wrestling thrives, with wrestlers living, training, and competing together at akhara – a unique boarding house meets gymnasium. This traditional practice, steeped in religious beliefs, symbolises respect for the Earth and a connection to one's roots, as the wrestlers adhere to a simple routine of training, eating, sleeping, and competing, and follow a near monastic existence, including celibacy, vegetarianism, and teetotalism until retirement at mid-30s.
Meanwhile, in a different corner of the world, the "Always in Company" campaign is spreading a message of solidarity and connection. This charity initiative, run by Suicide&Co and The Photography Movement, aims to remind people experiencing difficult times that they are never truly alone. The main photographer for this campaign is Jim Fenwick, with other contributors including Sarah Ann Loreth, Pixie Forde, and Jürgen Steffe.
The campaign invites professional photographers and members of the public to submit images of what company means to them. Submissions range from images of people at festivals, catch-ups with friends, hospitals, starlit skies, and pets. One such submission, a photograph of Kushti wrestlers, was made by Jim Fenwick to the charity-led photography project.
