The Music Teacher of the Year Awards, in partnership with ABRSM, are set to take place in 2024, and the competition is heating up as a panel of judges and music industry experts have shortlisted five nominees for the 'Best Music Learning Initiative' category.

Voting is now open for the public to choose the winner, and the nominees are as follows:

  1. Sounding Out

Sounding Out is an initiative that aims to reverse the decline in classical tuition among young people. The programme provides orchestral instrument lessons to children at all Canterbury city primary schools, and has the support of The King's School Canterbury.

  1. Band in a Van

Band in a Van is another nominee, led by The Alina Orchestra, that offers a series of interactive events at local libraries and family and children's centers. This initiative introduces young people to classical music in a fun and inspiring way.

  1. Bratton Brass Roots

Bratton Brass Roots is a children's beginner brass band, stemming from the tradition of brass bands, and is affordable for families. This initiative aims to provide a fun and accessible way for children to learn and enjoy music.

  1. Rap Therapy

Rap Therapy uses rap as a tool to improve the mental health and creativity of students, and equips them with transferable skills like communication and expression. This innovative approach to music education is one of the nominees for the award.

  1. Benedetti Foundation

The Benedetti Foundation, led by violinist Nicola Benedetti, offers interactive and fun workshops that introduce string playing and creative musicianship to young people. The foundation's mission is to make music accessible and enjoyable for all.

Voting is now open for the public to choose the winner, so make sure to cast your vote for the initiative that you believe is making a significant impact on young people's musical lives. The winner will be announced at the Music Teacher of the Year Awards in 2024.
