In a tragic incident, a 60-year-old woman from the Bavarian district of Main-Spessart lost her life while hiking in the Austrian Alps. The incident occurred in Vorarlberg, a region known for its challenging hiking trails.
The woman was training for an upcoming hike in the Lechquellen Mountains in the Alps before the unfortunate event. However, the incident did not occur on the Gehrengrat, a notoriously difficult hiking route in Vorarlberg, but it was part of the hike.
The woman slipped at a narrow point during the hike, falling approximately 200 meters over rocky terrain. Her fall was witnessed by her companions, who immediately climbed down to her aid. Despite the efforts of witnesses and an emergency doctor who was summoned, the woman could not be saved.
The three hikers who were with the woman were evacuated by helicopter to the valley below. The police reported the incident, and a helicopter was also used to evacuate the remaining members of the group.
