Celebrators to Ignite Ritual Bonfire with Effigy as a Symbolic Halloween Tradition for Authentic Observance

Patrick Ryan '27, a paranormal activist, is among the students at Holy Cross College who are aiming to put the "Hallow" back into Halloween. Alongside fellow students Peter Venkman, Mike Myers, and Ichabod Crane, Ryan is part of a group that believes the holiday has become over-commercialized.

Halloween at Holy Cross offers a variety of activities during the weekend, providing an opportunity for students to express their personalities through costumes. Classic options like vampires, cats, witches, and ghosts are available, while Spirit Halloween has introduced a new line of college costumes.

Emma Hatem and Tyler Brackett '27 have compiled a list of the best Halloween activities at Holy Cross, which includes the popular event, The Nightmare Before Midterms. Caitlin Wiffer '27 is also dressing up for Halloween, joining the festivities.

Ichabod Crane, a history enthusiast, suggests that the original purpose of Halloween was to ward off evil spirits. He believes that Halloween used to stand for something and is now just an excuse to party and dress up in ridiculous costumes. Crane even suggests offering an offering to the dead may prevent being tormented by hellish demons.

However, the students' claims about the original purpose of Halloween are not backed by a whole lot of evidence. The search results yield no information about Patrick Ryan '27 or any connection to Halloween. Despite this, the students encourage others not to completely ignore their interpretation of Halloween.

Crane's views on the commercialization of Halloween resonate with many students. They argue that the corporate infiltration of Halloween has gone too far. The group plans to spread their interpretation of Halloween throughout the college, including lighting a gigantic bonfire during the witching hour.

As Halloween approaches, Holy Cross students are looking forward to celebrating the holiday in a unique way, blending tradition with their own interpretations and experiences.
