Celebratory block party to mark the opening of two fresh Art League establishments in Old Town North
The Art League, a well-known institution based at the Torpedo Factory Art Center (105 North Union Street), is celebrating the opening of two new locations in Old Town North. The celebration will take place at the Slaters Lane Annex (800 Slaters Lane) on Saturday, September 6, at 5 p.m.
Due to the redevelopment of its space at the Montgomery Center, The Art League was forced to relocate. However, the organisation has found two new homes in Old Town North - at Slaters and their new Studios at Muse (1201 N. Royal Street).
The Slaters Lane Annex, a building constructed in 1951, was previously a laboratory and a warehouse. Before becoming a Nordic Press print shop in 1996, it served its original purpose. The building underwent a transformation to accommodate the Art League's art courses.
The other location, Studios at Muse (1201 N. Royal Street), was also identified as a suitable space for classes. This building was constructed in 2023, making it a modern addition to The Art League's campuses.
The event on September 6 will feature art demonstrations, food, and ice cream bowls created by local artists. It's a family-friendly event, suitable for all ages. The event listing is available on Eventbrite.
The years of project planning, fundraising, and community support have led to the completion of these build-outs. The Art League is excited to bring its art courses to more people in the Old Town North community.
The Nordic Press print shop closed in 2021, leaving the Slaters Lane Annex vacant until The Art League moved in. The campus crawl event, including art demos, light bites, and an Ice Cream Bowl Preview, is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in the project.
