Census Launch in 2025: Official Initiation

In 2025, Bavaria will conduct a nationwide household survey known as the microcensus. This legally mandated random sample survey aims to provide up-to-date figures on the economic and social situation of the population.

Approximately 130,000 people in Bavaria will be interviewed for the microcensus, with around 60,000 households participating. The survey will involve a diverse selection of households, including about 300 households in the city of Landshut.

Selected households will be invited in writing by the State Office of Statistics to take part in the microcensus. Participants can identify enumerators accordingly and volunteer enumerators will specify the sample by checking the nameplates of previously selected buildings.

The microcensus interviews take place throughout the year until December. Participants can answer the questions in a telephone interview or an online survey. For the online version, access data will be provided by the respective enumerator or the State Office of Statistics. The online questionnaire should be completed on a PC, laptop, or notebook.

Trained interviewers will ask questions about the economic and social situation, labor market participation, income, living conditions, and internet usage. Data protection and confidentiality are comprehensively guaranteed during the microcensus.

Participating in the microcensus is essential as it helps ensure that political decisions can be made based on facts. The information collected in the microcensus is intended to provide a reliable picture of the living conditions of society. All households in Germany are required to participate in the Mikrozensus survey, which involves about 55,000 households sampled nationwide annually.

Further information about the microcensus can be found online. It's important for every selected household to participate in the survey, as it is crucial for the results to be representative of the entire population.
